To buy a new bed
For the guest room at
The old homestead
Salesman started me
At four thousand and change
I quickly informed him I wanted
The other end of the range
He argued “You need a good mattress
To get a comfortable rest”
I said it was for the guest room
And the most frequent guests
Were sons-in-law whose comfort
Was beyond my interest
He said “In that case
Let’s go to the warehouse
Where for one fifty we have
Used mattresses from a frat house”
