That America is a gullible nation
Responsive to base appeal
Not all Americans, for sure
But enough to provide fertile turf
For fomenters of unrest
And creators of divisive stuff
Maybe what’s happening
Is not really a new historical page
Maybe it’s just the heyday of pulp journalism
