Profound effects on democracy
And the effects are mostly
Of the negative variety
 
The crux of the matter is
Social media allows
Like-minded people
To reinforce their biases
Without the ameliorating impact
Of other points of view
From those with different stances

STOCK MARKET TAKES A DIVE

 

Stock market heads south
Much to Republicans’ delight
Dems are left with more bad news
For the upcoming election fight
 
The party in power gets the blame
For negative economic fluctuations
That may not be fair but
It’s the way public opinion functions
 
If many citizens were not
So intellectually challenged
Their understanding of
The economy’s workings
Might be more nuanced
Than just simplistic feelings

HOW FAR WILL PUTIN GO?

 

What’s to stop Putin
From going off the deep end
If he thinks the situation
Is getting out of hand?
 
Certainly not morality
Nor respect for humanity
Such traits are not
Part of his personality

The dogs of war
Might engulf the planet

The GOP needs
To change its name
To recognize it’s no longer
In the anti-government game
 
The Party has morphed
From government hands-off
To pouring a social agenda
Into the public’s trough

Would be an appropriate moniker
To emphasize its new status
As a big government player

Maybe the Bible needs examining
